Dog Training in Sequoyah Hills: Leash Manners for the Greenway, Sequoyah Park and Cherokee Boulevard

Sequoyah Hills is a walking neighborhood, and the leash rules apply

Sequoyah Hills is one of the neighborhoods Rebeka says matters most to her Knoxville clients. It is also built around dog walking. The Sequoyah Greenway runs 2.7 miles along the median of Cherokee Boulevard and connects Sequoyah Hills Park, Talahi Park and the Third Creek Greenway. The City of Knoxville lists walking leashed dogs as an allowed use of the greenway.

Under city ordinance, dogs must be kept on a leash in both Sequoyah Hills Park and Talahi Park. That makes calm, reliable leash manners the skill that matters most here, not a nice extra.

The places Sequoyah Hills dogs get tested

• Sequoyah Hills Park (1400 Cherokee Blvd): 84 acres with a riverfront trail, boat ramp and kayak launch, ball fields, a playground and open space. Plenty of people, other dogs and moving balls to ignore.
• Talahi Park (1034 Cherokee Blvd): a small park with a walking path, benches and shelters beside the greenway, where passing joggers and cyclists test focus.
• The Cherokee Boulevard greenway: a long, shared path where the dog that pulls toward every squirrel and passing dog gets noticed quickly.

• Ellie, bernedoodle: Ellie needed a good foundation to become a therapy dog for her owner's mom.
