Pit Bull Training in Knoxville, TN

Dog and trainer practicing obedience

Pit bulls and other bully breeds are affectionate, athletic and eager to please. They are also strong dogs, which means good manners are not optional: a pit bull that pulls, jumps or lunges is much harder to manage than a small dog doing the same thing. K9 Services Unlimited offers pit bull training in Knoxville, TN for puppies, adolescents and adult dogs.

What we work on with pit bulls

  • Leash manners. Walking calmly without pulling or lunging, even around other dogs and people.
  • Basic and advanced obedience. Sit, down, place, heel and a reliable recall. See obedience training and off-leash control.
  • Impulse control. Waiting at doors, settling when people visit, and not jumping on guests.
  • Puppy foundations. House training, crate training, bite inhibition and socialization through our puppy training program.
  • Behavior problems. Dog reactivity, guarding, fear and aggression through behavior modification.

Socialization and other dogs

Many bully breeds do well with other dogs when they are properly socialized and trained, and some become reactive or selective as they mature. We do not make assumptions about your dog based on its breed. We evaluate the individual dog and build a plan for what it needs. Read more in our post on the importance of socialization in puppy training.

Training options

Depending on your dog and schedule, you can choose from several programs, including pet dog training and our immersive board and train program, where your dog stays with us for 4 or 6 weeks and you learn to maintain the results at home.

Good training also helps your dog's reputation. A pit bull that is calm on a leash, polite with visitors and under control in public makes the best possible impression on neighbors and strangers.

Frequently asked questions

Are pit bulls hard to train?

Pit bulls are generally eager to please, food and praise motivated, and quick to learn. They are also strong and energetic, so they benefit from early structure, leash training and consistent rules.

Can you train a pit bull that is reactive toward other dogs?

Dog reactivity is one of the most common concerns we see in many breeds. Our behavior modification program works on controlled exposure, impulse control and obedience around other dogs.

Do you offer pit bull puppy training?

Yes. Our puppy training program covers house training, crate training, leash manners, socialization and basic obedience.
